Definitely interesting, although I much prefer the Davis film. I am also a devotee of the 1932 Crawford version of Maugham's RAIN, in which Jeanne Eagles had starred on stage. I have yet to see the silent Sadie Thompson starring Swanson. I will seek it out in order to compare and contrast. I enjoyed reading your synopsis and review of this film.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07160851391757277108noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9143901229925085760.post-9883561736195115332014-11-22T12:56:21.068-05:002014-11-22T12:56:21.068-05:00Yet I'm familiar with Jeanne Eagels premature ...Yet I'm familiar with Jeanne Eagels premature death, I haven't seen her in The Letter yet. In 1929, performances were extremely theatrical. I think it's fair to say that Bette is queen, but Jeanne Eagles brought a lot to the role.FlickChickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17351624749230610755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9143901229925085760.post-20269896835087032952014-11-16T15:58:40.183-05:002014-11-16T15:58:40.183-05:00Sorry but Bette is hands above Ms. Eagels. Probably wasn't expecting Jeanne Eagels' performance to be quite so wildly theatrical. I do enjoy her climactic "With all my heart..." scene, though, and like to consider what it implies about how her Leslie Crosbie might've lived out her remaining years among the rubber trees. The Lady Evehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11963115499930520653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9143901229925085760.post-78343711141847214592014-11-13T17:34:14.590-05:002014-11-13T17:34:14.590-05:00Jeanne Eagels is FANTASTIC in that clip you posted...Jeanne Eagels is FANTASTIC in that clip you posted.
